Who we're looking for

This role is fundamental in fulfilling Big W’s FY21-24 strategic ambition, to become a purpose-led digital retailer enabled by a great store network. With rapidly growing online sales, we are accelerating the evolution of our Digital business, this role will lead the squad delivering modern, cloud-service based technologies to create the desired customer and team experiences.

What you will be doing

Build with your Team from the ground up using React Native both an iOS & Android application for BigW endusers.
Deliver across the entire iOS & Android apps life cycle – concept, design, build, deploy, test, release to app stores and support.
Implement a strong CI/CD pipeline to ensure we build well, detect problems early, provide effective feedback and automate the testing and deployment process.
Bring best-in-class mobile practices, lead by example to get the team to spend the time to build well throughout the incremental product iterations.
Enable thorough code review practices to ensure great architecture and code quality
Collaborate with other Technical Leads and Engineering Managers to help them create and maintain a robust framework to support the apps.
Lead your mobile software engineering team into excellent coding & testing practices
Lead the optimization of the React Native application across iOS and Android devices to ensure their performance, quality, and responsiveness for BigW end-users.
Identify and correct performance bottlenecks.
Own the development of the React Native application, define the direction of the codebase and produce an outstanding experience for our BigW digital customers.
Coordinate and collaborate with the Product & Engineering team to understand problems and come up with solutions.
Work closely with the design team to ensure the application meets the Android Material Design and iOS Human Interface guidelines.
Work closely with the Product Manager(s), BA(s) and UX/UI Designer(s) to build new features and fix existing issues.
Analyze software issues and recommend workaround solutions.
Actively maintain a high test coverage for both iOS & Android devices using the application by leading the Team to create test cases, unit tests and automation scripts for better.
Research and apply new industry tools and technologies to use in the development of new software solutions.
Keep up to date on the latest industry trends in mobile technologies.
Utilize Lean Process Improvement tools during design and implementation of software solutions.
Lead and mentor an elite Team of mobile engineers.
Provide constructive feedback and inspire continuous improvement of our app.
Be security minded and ensure BigW mobile applications meet an expected level of security and robustness.
You will be able to instil a strong sense of ‘team’ and will have the ability to unite everyone around the outcomes required whilst encouraging an inclusive and fun work environment.

Some other experiences would include

Minimum 3 years professional experience with mobile development using React Native and at least 10 years of general development experience.
Experience in large-scale mobile development projects that require building complex User Interfaces and delivering outstanding performance for the end-user.
A dedication and a keen interest in building applications that unlock outstanding digital experiences.
Exceptional communication & problem solving skills, a solution-focused approach
A very strong understanding of data structures & algorithms.
A very strong experience in writing clean testable code and capability with BDD, TDD patterns & frameworks.
A strong understanding of best CI/CD mobile practices, and experience with automation tools.
Strong experience with Clean Architecture and presentation patterns such as MVVM, MVC and MVP.
