Who we're looking for

The Head of Corporate Communication Hong Kong and Macau is a full-time role focused on enhancing Visa’s reputation and driving brand preference for all our stakeholders in these markets. The role is based in Hong Kong with local external agency support.

With its proximity to Mainland China and the Greater Bay Area, Hong Kong and Macau are integral parts of Visa’s Greater China cluster, and represent dynamic opportunities for the world’s largest payment technology company to drive commercial solutions, fintech and cross-border e-commerce in the region.

The Head of Corporate Communication Hong Kong and Macau works closely with the General Manager to develop communication strategies in both markets to manage the complexity of the markets, support business development, deliver business objectives and drive growth, and contributing to the success in the Greater China cluster.

The role is also responsible for working with key cross functional colleagues including Marketing, Merchant Sales and Solutions, Fintech Partnership, Government Engagement, Products and Human Resources to ensure the corporate communication function supports the objectives of the wider business units.

The Head of Corporate Communication, Hong Kong and Macau reports to the function head of Greater China and sits on the Leadership Management Team in the market. In addition to the internal team, the Head manages the local communication agency.

The role is part of Visa’s Global Corporate Communication group, which oversees all corporate communication functions at Visa Inc., including media relations, industry analyst relations, public affairs, innovation communication and issues management. It develops and oversees communication programs that support Visa Inc.'s brand, marketing, product, and technology strategies and also supports executive and employee communication, and digital communication strategies.

What you will be doing

Grow and Protect Corporate Reputation to drive growth

  • Drive brand preference to all our stakeholders
  • Develop communication strategies that support Visa’s business objectives and drive growth for Hong Kong and Macau
  • Develop communication programs that demonstrate the value of Visa to everyone, everywhere across Hong Kong and Macau, and Greater Bay Area
  • Develop key messages that communicate the attributes of trust, choice, innovation and growth of Visa as a business and an organisation
  • Establish Visa as a responsible corporate citizen that supports Hong Kong and Macau’s national agendas
  • Mobilise resources to seize opportunities to enhance reputation and drive growth in Hong Kong and Macau via communication programs

Executive Relations

  • Provide executive communication support to the Hong Kong and Macau General Manager across a variety of internal, external, client, and media communications opportunities
  • Harness the “Trusted engine of Commerce” message to demonstrate our value to clients and other stakeholders to support the positive development of the payments ecosystem


  • Utilise all channels, both traditional and non-traditional, to drive Visa’s message and support the regional communication strategy

Integrated Communication

  • Work closely with business leaders, ensure corporate communication programs are aligned and a coordinated approach is being taken to leverage Visa’s assets across Hong Kong and Macau  

People Management

  • Lead and inspire direct report and team members in Greater China
  • Ensure the corporate communication function is seen as trusted advisors within the wider Hong Kong and Macau business teams
  • Provide and create opportunities for your team members’ personal development and career progression
  • Foster a culture of collaboration among wider business units

Regional Media Management

  • Ensure Visa’s senior management across Hong Kong and Macau and the communication teams in the region are seen as trusted authorities by the region’s media.
  • Create opportunities for Visa’s Hong Kong and Macau General Manager and other key management to obtain high, positive profile in broadcast and print media.

Internal communication

  • Lead to develop and deliver informative and engaging internal communication activities including employee communications programs and staff volunteering events

Public affairs

  • Create and deliver relationship building activities with the government via Visa’s Financial Literacy capabilities
  • Work with Visa’s head of Government Engagement to support Visa’s public policy position across Hong Kong and Macau and Greater Bay Area, to protect against regulatory threats  

Client communication to drive true partnership

  • Work with regional client communication lead to support the business to communicate with all relevant levels of management within client organisations


  • Develop local activities to leverage global and regional sponsorships

Issues management

  • Lead the business in identification, preparation and response to any reputational issues

Key Performance Indicators

  • Key Performance Indicators will be developed with the successful candidate to reflect Visa’s leadership practices (driving growth, spurring innovation, executing on commitments, raising client performance and leading people).  In addition, the following criteria will be assessed:
  • Leading a successful and effective corporate communication function across Hong Kong and Macau
  • Maintaining a strong presence for Visa across both traditional and social media channels
  • Developing communication programs that enhance Visa’s profile and communicate the benefits of Visa’s products and services to media, consumers, clients, governments, NGOs and other relevant stakeholders
  • Forging mutually beneficial relationships with stakeholders relevant to Visa’s business
  • Effective budget management.

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports to Head of Corporate Communication Greater China
  • Direct report – Corporate Communication Manager
  • Works closely with General Manager, management and cross-functional leaders across Hong Kong and Macau
  • Vendors report directly to the jobholder and to subordinates
Who you are

• First degree with minimum 15 years’ Public Relations experience working in a relevant corporation or Public Relations consultancy
• Digital-first capability
• Strong people management skills
• Banking and/or technology experience
• Strategic communication planning
• Good business and marketing sense
• Understanding of audience segment
• Strong cross-cultural capabilities
• Superior interpersonal and presentational skills
• Outstanding writing abilities in English
• Results-oriented with clearly defined measurement matrix.

• Expertise in social media and digital communication channels
• Financial budgeting
• Strong language skills
• Connections within the Chinese media and key stakeholder groups
