Who we're looking for

Job purpose:

To support the Central Buying team in all aspects of the buying process to bring in a selection of seasonal merchandise which ties in with the company’s strategic direction whilst maximizing the profit opportunities for the company

What you will be doing

In addition to following Lane Crawford’s policies and procedures, key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

Sales and Profit 

  • To assist the buying team to achieve seasonal sales and profit targets based on the seasonal business plan
  • To negotiate with suppliers in a tough but fair manner to secure exclusive ranges / brands and optimize the profit margin
  • To monitor closely on a detailed open to buy (OTB) system controlling sales and stock levels to maintain seasonal target
  • To work with stores to establish a balanced range of merchandise suited to the customer profile of store. Work together to make recommendations for changes and improvements to maximize sales potential and profit within the store
  • To be proactive in understanding the competition and take appropriate action to minimize any loss of Lane Crawford market share 
  • To determines pricing strategies for products/suppliers based on market reviews, competitor positions, supplier financials, etc.
  • To fully understand supplier cost structure and logistics costs. Able to identify value added opportunities for Lane Crawford as appropriate
  • To provide monthly updates to relevant parties on key costs and expenses related to buying
  • To ensure that staff are utilising omni-channel technology to encourage customers to shop on and off line, maximizing sales at every opportunity

Merchandise Management 

  • To be innovative and to forecast upcoming trends by attending worldwide exhibitions 
  • To be familiar with both local and overseas market situations and trends
  • To source newness and to maintain a leading position in the market of products in its own category
  • To ensure timely delivery of merchandise and ensure consistent quality and quantity to stores
  • To monitor sell-through and deliveries of all suppliers and take decisive action to deal with their performance

Relationship Management 

  • To work closely with Creative, Marketing & Communications and Visual Merchandise to deliver the correct image to the end customer through the correct channels
  • To work closely with warehouse to maintain a timely delivery to stores
  • To demonstrate a desire to understand and communicate the latest trends and fashion to customers and staff 
  • To manage the business relationship with the suppliers involved in their business category to maximize sales and gross profit (GP$) potential
  • To provide accurate knowledge and information to sales staff for them to communicate with the customers
  • To train sales staff in all aspects of their merchandise including product knowledge and visual presentation
  • To fully understand and able to communicate our Omni-channel business model, ensuring all staff understand the need for a seamless customer experience, on and off line
